The Eleanor Roosevelt High School’s indoor track and field team’s postseason is underway. The Raiders have competed well so far this season, but still have plenty room for improvement if they want to bring home a championship.

On February 3rd, the Raiders participated in the 4A East Regional Championship at the Baltimore Armory. The boys’ team finished 6th out of 15 teams in the competition, with teams like rival 3rd place Bowie High School and 1st place C.H. Flowers High School placing higher. As for the girls’ team, they finished in 11th place of 15 teams, tied with Bladensburg High School.

“It is very competitive.” said senior mid-distance sprinter Rilwan Bakare referring to the other teams.

In the boys’ 55 meter dash, senior Bob Okoroajuzie competed well, placing in 3rd place with a time of 6.63a. In the 1600 meter race, junior Edward Belsoi also finished in 3rd place with a time of 4:48:70a.

In reference to his individual performance, Okoroajuzie said he “ did okay. Two people have better times than me but I don’t think they’re better.”

The qualifying members from the boys’ team will look to improve on their times for the upcoming state meet. As for the girls’ team, they will not have any representatives in the state meet, but will look to use this as motivation. for the outdoor season.

One of the lesser moments of the Raiders performance occurred when their 4×200 meter relay team was disqualified from their race.

“It was terrible” said senior Erica Gibbs in regards to her team’s performance. “Honestly it’s part lack of motivation. We didn’t practice as much as we should have. We are just hoping we do better in the outdoor season”.

The Roosevelt track team will work hard over the next few months so they can achieve success as the outdoor season begins.
