After a good season for both the Junior Varsity and Varsity girls basketball team, players on both teams displayed their hard work and dedication to their teams. J.V had an overall record of 11-2 and a regional record of 10-2, Varsity had an overall record of 15-9 and a regional record of 12-6. Roosevelt’s girls basketball team clearly had a number of extraordinary players and amazing plays that helped them win their games.
Claudia Vanderhave is a guard on the JV team and had the most points and assists per game on her team. Vanderhave had 12.4 points per game and 2.2 assist per game during the season, she was in the top 3 in Maryland for 1 stat, and in the top 3 in Maryland’s Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association.
Paris Medley was a guard on the JV team and had the highest field goal percentage, with a 50% field goal percentage and steals per game, with 5.8 steals per game. Medley was ranked in the top 18 nationally for 1 stat, top 2 in Maryland for 1 stat, and top 2 in Maryland’s Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association for 1 stat.
Marjay Connelly was a forward on the JV team and had the most rebounds per game. Connelly had 7 rebounds per game. Marjay was ranked in the top 102 Nationally for 1 stat, top 4 in Maryland for 1 stat, and top 4 in Maryland’s Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association for 1 stat.
Akingode Oluwatemila was a center on the JV team and had the most blocks per game. Oluwatemila had a record of 2 the blocks per game. Akingode was ranked in the top 23 Nationally for 1 stat, top 1 in Maryland for 1 stat, and top 1 in Maryland’s Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association for 1 stat. The girl’s junior varsity basketball team recently won their last game against Laurel and overall had a good season.
Sakariah Sterling, a shooting guard on the varsity team, had the record for most points per game. Sterling had an average of 11.0 points per game. Sakairah was ranked in the top 32 in Maryland for 1 stat, top 1 in Division 4A for 1 stat, and top 1 in Prince George’s County 4A for 1 stat.
McKenzie Dántignac played point guard and shooting guard on the varsity team and has the most leading field goal percentage, assists per game, and steals per game. Dántignac’s records were: 38% accuracy from the field goal, 2.0 assist per game, and 3.0 steals per game. Dántignac was ranked in the top 54 in Maryland for 1 stat, top 10 in Division 4A for 1 stat, and top 4 in Prince George’s County 4A for 2 stats.
Jaiden D´antignac played guard positions on the varsity team and led the team in most rebounds pergame. Jaiden had 6.4 rebounds per game. Jaiden was ranked in the top 100 in Maryland for 1 stat, top 18 in Division 4A for 1 stat, and top 6 in Prince George’s County 4A for 1 stat.
Overall Eleanor Roosevelt’s girl’s basketball teams had great seasons and not only did they have an amazing record, but they also grew closer together. Tune in next season in the fall to see more of the two teams’ talent!
