Back-to-School Night Builds Parent-Teacher Bonds

On Wednesday, September 19, ERHS parents took the initiative to get involved in education during Back-to-School Night.

Back-to-School Night has been an annual event for several decades at ERHS, but this was the first year that translators were provided for non-English speaking parents.

Ms. Koroknay, the sponsor of the Latin Student Association (LSA), said the club decided to provide translation services because “the attendance of parents is growing, and the need for translators became a necessity.”

“Most of the parents were able to communicate with [teachers] through their child or a relative that is bilingual,” she explained.

Other teachers explained that parent attendance this year was impressive.

“Being the only French teacher in the school, I have a lot of students, and the turnout is always overwhelming,” said Mme Cherubin.

Back-to-School Night not only helps keep parents up to date on their child’s progress, but also helps build a parent-teacher bond that is essential in a productive learning environment. .
