For many years, Eleanor Roosevelt High has held a homecoming dance on Saturday nights after their homecoming parade and football game.
This year’s dance, however, will take place on a Friday night, before the other homecoming activities.
According to Eleanor Roosevelt High’s History teacher and SGA sponsor, Mr. Brian Secker, the decision was made in part because students have no school on that Friday.
“We hope that this will give everyone a chance to relax and get ready for a fun evening” Mr. Secker said. “In years past the Homecoming has been a very long day for many of our students. Students come to the parade, pre-game festival, the football game, and then rush home to go to the dance.”
Students had mixed feelings about this change.
Many students, like sophomore Tejaswi Pandey, agreed with the change.
“It’s more convenient to have this dance on Friday” said Pandey.
“It helps more of us to get our homecoming parade going with no stress after.”
Some, like senior Faith Rufus, said that the weekend would become too exhausting with two days of festivities.
“I don’t like this, people will be tired to attend the parade the next day!” said Rufus. “It’s on a Friday night and most people hang out at restaurants right after the dance and won’t be home until 2am”
Others said they have important weekday plans.
“It bothers me!” says senior student, Ashley Kegley “I don’t like it being on Fridays. Some of us have internship and work.”
This year, the cost of a ticket has gone from $12 to $15, which includes the dance ticket and photo ticket.
