@RaiderRok

In her sophomore year of high school, Rokhaya Niang, through the internet, was exposed to a wide array of social issues. Having never paid attention to these issues or seen them covered on mainstream sites, she suddenly realized the grave importance of media and specifically journalism. Already comfortable with writing, she planned to apply her interest in social justice somewhere it could be accurately represented, leading her to take the journalism course in her senior year.

Rokhaya aims to deliver interesting and factual stories and also to depict issues in a way that can lead to positive change. In addition to journalism, her interests include robotics, Envirothon, and science bowl. Rokhaya is also the co-founder of the Students for Social Justice club at Eleanor Roosevelt High school. Although she does not plan to pursue a career in journalism, she does plan to somehow be involved with student newspapers in college and always remain aware of what is happening in the world around her.
