Benno Wien, Staff Writer
Benno Wien is a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt HS. He joined The Raider Review in 2021. Writing has been a passion of his for a long time. He’s been writing stories since the second grade, and took part in the Write-a-Book competition throughout elementary and middle school. His first exposure to ERHS came at that time, as the awards for the competition were held in Roosevelt’s own auditorium. The vending machines seemed very impressive at the time.
Benno joined The Raider Review for numerous reasons, chief among them being his interest in writing and news media. As a child, he remembers answering prying questions of, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” with ideas of being a reporter. He remembers reading the newspaper as a kid and being fascinated by the news from around the world. These global affairs still interest him today, and he wants to bring that kind of reporting to The Raider Review. Local issues are important to him as well, and he wants to create a link between global and local affairs.
In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, watching movies, and reading. Benno’s other great passion, outside of school, has been running. Benno has been part of the Track and Cross Country teams since freshman year. So often he hears people complain about how difficult running is, but he hopes to convey the joy of that sport to others.
Benno plans to attend the University of Maryland but is unsure of his major. He is currently interested in majoring in physics and then minoring in a more humanities focused area, like journalism.
