Augustina Alapa, Staff Writer

Augustina Alapa is a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. She is also a staff writer of The Raider Review and currently taking Journalism as a class.

Augustina is taking journalism because she enjoys reading articles from the NYT, CNN, and any other websites she can find. In addition, she likes reading physical newspapers from time to time. She is hoping that by taking Journalism, she can learn more about the writing process as well as take part in the process. Furthermore, she hopes to cover topics surrounding race, gender, ethnicity, and school-related topics such as sports games, clubs, spirit week, and more. Her goal in Journalism is to write and publish at least two articles, on any of the topics she hopes to cover, in The Raider Review

Her interests outside of Journalism include creative writing (poetry), volunteer work, and reading. She is hoping to publish her poetry in the near or far future. She is also heavily involved in her school community through clubs and volunteering. Two of her favorite books are All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Her post-high school goal is to attend a four-year college as a pre-med student and then go on to medical school to fulfill her career goal of becoming a doctor. She hopes that as a doctor she is able to contribute to the ongoing conversation on healthcare disparities in marginalized communities. She hopes to help bridge the gap between medical science and medical humanities/social science by conducting research on medical history and social science, advocating for diversity in healthcare, and working towards closing the gender pay gap in medicine.
