Opinion: America’s Reaction on 7 Country Ban

On Friday, January 27, President Donald Trump put out the “Executive Order: Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States” in which he banned around 214 million people  from entering the United States for the next 90 days. Trump has denied entry to refugees saying that it would be, “detrimental to the interests of the United States.” The countries that are on the list are ones that are predominantly Muslim such as Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and Iran.

Major Corporations responded quickly to this ban. Starbucks, for example released a statement saying that they will provide jobs for refugees that are currently in the United States. There are Trump supporters who have agreed to boycott Starbucks as a result.

The United States is a country that started off as a place where British people came to escape religious persecution from the King and Queen of England. Most of the indigenous people here have been pushed to the side and  looked at as a different type of American. The United States was looked at as a safe place for people who were trying to escape suffering in their own country.  With this new power and plans to ban and deport refugees it will become harder to escape to America. While Trump wants to protect America from further “terror attacks,”going as far as banning people who are trying escape the dangers of their own countries is a little insensitive.

The ban also applies to green card holders. If an immigrant has earned his green card which is a timely process they rightfully deserve to live in the United States. Green card holders that have been living in the United States for years now may have to uproot their lives and figure out an alternative plan because of the President’s executive order.

Dismissing over 100,000 people who are in need is a selfish action. I think that Trumps intentions are generally in the right place with trying to help prevent “terror attacks,” but I believe that Trump made a decision without being fully equipped with the right information. Trump needs to get a further understanding of other countries and their dynamics because doing things like this can easily lead to wars and very dangerous situations for the United States. Overall I just feel like this is not a well thought out idea coming from our President.
