Girls Lacrosse Now A Varsity Sport

The girls lacrosse team, now officially a varsity sport had a successful start to their season, dominating their first two games against Duval High School (22-0) and Friendly High School (14-0). The ERHS girls lacrosse team is playing at an advantage this year because they play against teams that have just integrated lacrosse into their sports program, while the Raiders previously had a club team. It will take a few years to get “equality in the entire league,” according to coach Charles Mills.

Comprised mostly of freshmen,  the team this year is heavily dependent on their young athletes as new faces turn up with the team officially transitioning to varsity. This spells out good things for the future of the team. Senior Kailey Held says having a team consisting of younger athletes is “good for the team as a whole.”

With the advantage of facing teams that have just kicked off their season, the Raiders see no major problems in their game. Although there is always room for improvement, Senior Caroline Ahalt is confident in their in-game skills and says, “we’ll get better throughout the season.”

Hopes are high for the Raiders as they continue their season. This is also just a beginning for most of the players who are now working towards eligibility for the state playoffs next year.
