Baseball: Raiders Swing For The Fences

Baseball season is among us. The sun is out, temperatures have risen, and the Eleanor Roosevelt High School boys’ baseball team is beginning to fire on all cylinders midway through its regular season.

After suffering a disappointing loss against rival Bowie High School, the Raiders have rediscovered themselves as a team with back to back wins against High Point and Bladensburg.

Junior outfielder Sam Levins said that “since the Bowie game I have been noticing more focus and discipline out of the whole team.” As for a potential rematch in the playoffs, Levins stated that “everyone is determined to make up for that game next time around.”

The team this is year is very young, but are still lead by a strong core senior group comprising of Jacob Farmer, Clark Reese, and Tyler Chotoo.

Reese, a dominant pitcher, noted that the team still has a lot of work to do if they want to achieve their goals. “I think everyone has made adjustments at the positions they are playing and it is really improving the team as a whole. We need to start playing as a team more instead of [as] individuals” said Reese.

Farmer, a slugging outfielder, thinks if these adjustments are made the team should be able “to contest in playoffs.” Farmer said it simply, “we just have to hit the baseball. When our lineup does hit well, we are a dangerous team.”

Despite losses against Bowie and Flowers, the rest of the regular season should be a breeze for the Raiders going into playoffs.

Reese concluded, “I think the rest of the season will be a fun journey.”

Let’s see if the Raiders can make it one to remember.
