Library Receives New Computers and Tables

On Friday, Nov. 20 and Monday, Nov. 23, the installation of new computers and tables caused the library to be closed.  The old computers were moved from the main floor in the library to the neighboring reference room in order to make room for a new computer lab. The computers both in the library and in the labs are utilized by many of the students before and after school and during lunch. The recent upgrade means both new computers and more computers for the students.

ERHS paid for the new computers, while the class of 2015 gave the money for the new tables. The new monitors are larger, and the computers are faster and more efficient. “I am thrilled because access is so important to ERHS students,” librarian Ms. Peterson said. She continued to say that new technology and better access “matches the mission of the school.”

The new computers are still Dell, but a more up-to-date version. “The screens look better and the computers seem to be faster,” said sophomore Alex Pagan. However, not all students have felt the upgrade. “I haven’t really noticed a difference yet,” said senior Billy Rosenberg, who mentioned that he goes to the library at least once a week.

The old computers will be put into the reference room to make a new lab if ERHS can raise $8,000 to make the room suit the needs of a computer lab.

A new lab could be useful, as there are “so many classes that reserve labs, that sometimes people aren’t able to have computer access,” as said by senior Kwesi Billups, who said that he attends the library almost every day.
