What Would You Change About Roosevelt?

What would you change about Roosevelt?

No matter how good things are, people will always have complaints or have an opinion on what could be changed for the better. I figured Eleanor Roosevelt High School is no different and took it upon myself to ask a few students what they would change about the school if they could.

“Roosevelt is a good school with opportunities” said Sophomore Chelsea Flores. However, “We need better school lunch” she said. She feels that it is “not at all good” and stated that “price raises each year”.

Senior Keigan Thornton admitted that she “wouldn’t change the people because they make Roosevelt, Roosevelt”. “Other than the fact that there are no windows, I wouldn’t change anything”, Thornton continued. Freshman Lindsey Hite said something similar, claiming she would change the fact that there are “no windows because it feels like jail”

Freshman Angeli Weekes appreciates the schools uniform policy, claiming, “I like that we don’t wear uniform”. Struggling to think of what she would change, Nkandi said “ I wouldn’t change anything”. Freshman Priscilla Nakandi said, “I like that the school is organized and when it’s class time, there are no kids walking in the hallway”. However, “I would change the dismissal time to 2:30 instead of 3:20” Nakandi said.

Senior Kaina Green said “I like that we have a lot of clubs”. If she could she would change the “World history curriculum because it tends to be very Eurocentric and doesn’t focus on the world as a whole”. Where as if Junior Chidozie Ukwandu could change anything, he “would change the administrators because they are too strict”. Other than that ” Roosevelt is a cool school, and some of the teachers are cool like Mr. Stagg”. Ukwandu concluded.

Though these students have complains and concerns about the school, they all share one thing in common. Despite their comments on what they would change, all students that were interviewed admitted that they like Roosevelt for one or more reasons.

Roosevelt is a good school despite some concerns students might have. Yes the price of school lunch has increased, sure the administrators are strict and maybe the world history curriculum is Eurocentric but we are all here for one reason. We are here for the education and I believe we are getting exactly it.
