Staff Spotlight: Mr. Eddie Evans
September 21, 2015
Former security officer Mr. Eddie Evans is new to Eleanor Roosevelt High School, but has been a supervisor of our area for some time now. Mr. Evans has been a security officer for twenty years now and he is not planning on retiring anytime soon. His major goals this school year are to interact and influence students.
Mr. Evans decided to join the Roosevelt family this year because he says he had two kids graduate from Roosevelt HS, including Trevor Evans (class of 2013) and his daughter Tania Evans (class of 2014,) and that he believes that Eleanor Roosevelt HS educated his kids well. That’s one of the main reasons why he decided to join the ERHS family.
“I am a parent before a security officer,” Mr. Evans said when asked what he wanted the students to know about him. He wants students to know that they can come to him with any issues and it doesn’t have to be criminally-associated; they can come to him as a mentor or a father figure. He also enjoys school events and loves golf and basketball which he used to play in high school, and played for the state champions. Mr. Evans also said he wishes he could speak Spanish, and is willing to learn Spanish if any students want to teach him in the hallways while they go to lunch or to their classrooms.
Mr. Evans also said he hates followers. “Be yourselves, don’t be a follower and get in trouble,” he said. He wants students to strive high and to always follow their dreams, and to always have a plan B.
School principal Mr. Reginald McNeill said that he was pleased to have Mr. Evans at the school. “He’s doing great,” Mr. McNeill said. “He is very familiar with Eleanor Roosevelt since he had his children graduate from here so he’s been in touch with us for a very long time.”
