Ask Jethro: Summer Swamped

Jethro Punzalan, Advice Columnist

Dear Jethro,

I’m taking my first AP course next year and I recently found out there’s summer work. I really don’t want to do it, but I know I have to. What’s the easiest way to go about finishing the work?

Dear Summer Swamped,

I am completely with you on this one. I have summer work for AP Biology to do and I really just want to enjoy my summer and not do it, but I know that it’ll be beneficial for me to do it as I’ll be receiving a grade for it when school starts next year, and the information within will also help me through the first part of first quarter. The easiest way to go about finishing the work would be to break it up into chunks. Summer assignments are long, but they won’t seem that way if you complete them one part at a time. You know how much work there is that needs to be done, so you can be the judge of how much you’re going to do in a certain amount of time. For example, my AP Biology packet breaks the assignments into sections. I’m planning to do one section per week and spend 30 minutes to an hour every day. In due time, I will be finished before school starts next year, and I will still get to enjoy my summer. I hope you take my advice and enjoy your summer too while you’re at it.

Sincerely,

Jethro
