Roosevelt Baseball falls to Wise

On May 11, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. Henry A. Wise Varsity baseball took the field to play Eleanor Roosevelt Varsity for the first round of regional playoffs.

The players were feeling fairly confident after defeating Bowie in the county championship last week and took the field with integrity. Family, friends, and even alumni players such as Craig Farmer, captain for class of 2014 came to watch the game. Farmer said before the game that he was “excited that he could come back for this game and watch his former teammates” as was everybody who was present.

In the first inning Roosevelt got off to a great start and scored four and left Wise stunned. Wise wanted to win just as much as Roosevelt though and responded by scoring three in the next inning. Adrenaline was running high for all players on both teams. Wise players started to make contact with the ball and managed to push another run in the 5th inning tying the game at four.

In the top of the 7th, Wise overcame Roosevelt and scored two more runs and took the lead at 6-4. Roosevelt was not able to respond in the bottom of the 7th and Wise was the winner of this first round play-off game.

After the game fan freshman Alex Pagan said he “thought they look well prepared in warm-ups” as many others thought too.

Junior and baseball player Jacob Burns emphasized how Roosevelt was “making errors when they really could not afford too” and that this had a big effect on the outcome of the game.
