During the holiday season many students indulge themselves in an plethora of different foods both savory and sweet. To continue with the celebratory theme, the ERHS Raider Newspaper has created ‘The 12 days until Winter Break holiday recipe countdown’. Each day you will find a new holiday recipe that you can share with your family and friends.
6 days before Winter Break
Gingerbread:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Grease a 9 inch baking pan.
2. In a large bowl, mix together sugar and butter, then add in the egg and molasses.
3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
4. Blend the dry mixture into the creamed mixture and stir in the hot water.
5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
6. Bake for 1 hour or until a knife is inserted and comes out clean.’
