Gone Girl, directed by David Fincher, is based off the book by Gillian Flynn, but has a slightly different ending. On the day of his 5th wedding aniversary Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports to the police that his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) has gone missing. The movie recounts flashbacks of the early stages of their marriage and key moments that caused its downfall. As media begins to cover the story of Amy’s disappearance, Nick’s perfect husband persona begins to diminish. This psycho thriller takes the audience on a mysterious adventure, asking the question “Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?”
The unexpected twists and turns made Gone Girl very unpredictable. The movie starts out with Nick stroking his wife’s head, distracting the viewer and painting a pretty picture to disguise the ugly truth about their marriage. The careful detail that is put into the movie made me wonder how the author was able to use only words to describe every event.
I thought the movie was very well casted. Even thought it is a mystery psycho thriller, there are some comedic moments. As someone who enjoys trying to figure out mysteries while watching TV shows and movies, I can honestly say I was not able to predict the actions of ‘Amazing Amy’.
The explicit language and explicit scenes makes this movie rated R. Viewers Discression is advised.
