Carnevale in Italy is a multi-week winter festival ending on Martedi Grasso (Fat Tuesday) as a final “farewell to meat” and indulgences, before the fasting of Lent on Ash Wednesday. It is celebrated in many cities and small villages throughout Italy. The holiday is known for the elaborate masks and costumes that allowed citizens to ignore social classes and thrive in being anonymous. There are also many seasonal treats offered and games played during the festivities. While traditions are not the same in all regions, in Venice, it’s signified by the elegant masquerade balls.
Such a lively event, don’t you think? ERHS’s Italian Club will be holding our very own take on Carnevale, “The Unity Masquerade Ball”! There will be dressing up, masks, food, games, performances, and a chance to become King and Queen of the ball. We are collaborating with the Art Club, Ceramics Club, and Ms. Chin’s dance classes, as well as holding auditions in March for our performances. We would love it if you joined us to make this a very special and memorable event!
We would appreciate it if you donated to our fundraiser and auditioned to show your talents and perform at the Ball!
