The Maryland state government plans to build a sphere near the National Harbor in Oxon Hill. This sphere will be modeled after Las Vegas’ and will be completed by 2030. The Sphere is a source of entertainment, used for streaming movies in ultra HD, holding events, performing concerts, and more to a large audience. The Sphere in Vegas is a major tourist attraction, with the Sphere being able to hold over 16,000 people, and ticket prices start at around $50.
Public and private capital investments will both partially fund the plan. The proposal will bring benefits to the local area; it promises jobs and tourism to the Harbor. However, it also has its detractors, saying that it is costly and is not the correct priority for the state.
