On Tuesday and Thursday, November 18 and 20, the ERHS swim team held the first tryouts at Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex pool. The Eleanor Roosevelt swim team has held on to 18 consecutive county titles from the girls and 8 consecutive county titles from the boys. This Raiders team is hungrier than ever and is looking forward to this upcoming season, with athletes having something to prove from last year their early morning practices and focusing on perfect technique.
I’ve asked an athlete on the team questions about the upcoming season in preparation for the swim season. Junior Gavin Lansing has been an athlete for the Roosevelt swim team since his freshman year. He understands that as a junior athlete, college is near. In preparation for the season, he is training harder than ever before. Some goals he has for the season are “to make it to States again this year.” “As a team, I think some goals we have are to win Counties and Regionals this year and make it to States again!” He wants to set some personal records for the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. We should expect a great year from him and his team. “Yes! I think our team is set up for greater success than ever. This year our greatest competition in our region from Charles County got moved to a different division, so we should be able to get first place in the region this year. All in all, I think we are going to have an amazing season!”
If you support ERHS sports, you should attend their upcoming meet this Saturday, December 13th, at PGCC at noon. This is the second swim meet of the season. Even though you missed last Saturday’s meet, you could still attend this one!”
