AFJROTC unit MD-901 was established in 1996 and has since been a staple of the ERHS community. The unit, led by Cheif Hollis, Cheif Cruz, and student group commander Elina Nguyen, have helped nurture the community of the program. Chief Hollis describes the culture as a “family”; junior and second year cadet Seth Jorgensen adds “everyone in the unit are friends with one another”. AFJROTC has helped many of the students in this community grow even outside of the program. Many cadets have attested to personal growth they have experienced through leadership opportunities and service events. Chief Hollis says he notices that his program gives the “ability to help cadets mature quicker”. Seth Jorgensen recommends the program “to anyone who has interest in becoming a leader or a better person in general… I can say I went from being pretty secluded and quiet to someone who is outgoing and steps up wherever I see leadership is needed.”
