In the spirit of Halloween, the St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church transforms into a chilling haunted house. Each room is filled with shadows belonging to the unknown. As you wander through the hallways and different rooms, you will face the ghosts of local legends and witness the horrors that come with the story being told.
Every Halloween the church spends 2 days of October dedicated to bringing a fun yet scary haunted house to Greenbelt locals. With only an entrance fee of $5 you will get the chance to experience this memorable and unique event.
This has been a local event for 16 years and was created by Rebecca Bailey who has been running the youth group at the St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church. It all started back in 2008 when Ms.Bailey’s goal was to raise money, with her love for Halloween she had the idea of starting a haunted house at the school there which was still running at the time. The main storyline their first year was about a teacher that got murdered and the goal was to solve the mystery, and so from then on every year there has been a different theme with with a similar story, Ms.Bailey’s son Officer Bailey says “This makes our haunted house unique compared to other haunted houses I’ve been to, ours tells a story, has a narrative and a theme throughout the whole thing.”
The scare house has 5 rooms with actors in each one who are apart of the youth group at the church. One of the rooms always has fog and there is always a maze at the end which is made with string hung from the ceiling with black sheets hung from it to create “walls.” Throughout the maze the actors yell and scream to make it more difficult to escape. Overall after experiencing this haunted house, I thought it was extremely fun and cool to see something like this was happening in my community, I’d recommend this to anyone who just wants a good scare but also wants to support one of their local churches. I personally know I’d love to come back next year.
