Prince George’s County Public Schools experienced a cyber attack on August 14th, and as a result every student had to change their password. Much of the first week of school was spent fixing the student password issues due to the hack, and some students are still struggling to get their accounts in order. As an extra precaution, Millard House II, the Superintendent, strongly encourages all PGCPS network users to take identity protection measures. Visit the PGCPS website for information on steps you can take now to protect your identity.
Many ERHS students had different feelings on the hacking and password changes. When senior Amber Khatib found out about the hacking she decided to change all her passwords. Even so, she wasn’t too concerned. Khatib noted ”I didn’t take it seriously because I expected something like that to happen.”
Freshman Ellis McNear was also unfazed saying “Things always get better eventually.¨ McNear doesn’t think that the organization behind the attack is going to do anything with school information.
Thanks to the tireless work of our school’s technology team, most students’ accounts are running just fine. For technology questions, click here to access the ERHS Technology and Library Support website.
