A Reading Raider’s Summer Book List
June 9, 2022
Some would agree that they actually prefer reading when it is not assigned material from school. Well luckily the school year is coming to an end and students will be finishing up our last assigned book for school. However, I assume some will still be reading during the summer so I have put together a list with book recommendations from myself and a couple of other people so you can have something to read over the summer!
Recommended by: Tammi Tatro
The House in the Cerulean Sea: Ms. Tatro describes The House in the Cerulean Sea as a mixture of Harry Potter and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. The book is about children who have different abilities and how the world views people who are different from them and how they’re treated. Tatro describes the book as magical. Her favorite character is Lucy, a boy who is the son of Lucifer. She likes him because he’s very young and precocious. The book takes place in an orphanage on the island of Marsyas run by a man who goes by the name Arthur Parnassus.
Sanctuary: This book takes place in the year 2032. The book is about illegal immigration. The people in the book are being tracked by something inside of them. The book makes you think about the government policies in place for imigration and where you feel that politicians need to step up or change things for the better of not just America but all humans. Tatro appreciates the timeliness of the topic and how well written the book is.

The Song Of Achilles: This book is a story that is told from the perspective of Patroclus who had been exiled by his father to live in the court of Peleus. Patroclus starts to fall in love with the son of his host, a superhuman named Achilles.
We Were Liars: The book We Were Liars is a YA mystery story about the Sinclair family who appears perfect but actually hides their secrets, lies, and flaws. The story takes place on a private island where the Sinclair family spends their summers. While spending time on the island during summer, one of the teenagers Cadence develops a brain injury due to the swimming accident she had when she was 15. It’s a very shocking story and the end will have you feeling like you’ve lost your mind.

Pretty Girl-13: The book Pretty Girl-13 is a psychological mystery about a girl who was kidnapped and found her way home 3 years later. Throughout the book readers follow her on her journey to recover and piece together the memories of the kidnapping and trauma she faced during and before that. Readers discover why she couldn’t remember these experiences in the first place. If you decide to read this book please know it discusses very heavy topics that may be uncomfortable or triggering.
Girl In Pieces: The book Girl In Pieces is about a girl named Charlie Davis. The book starts out in a treatment facility where we are introduced to Charlie and the other women in there who self-harm. The book takes us through her journey of recovery and introduces us to new people and old people from her life. Throughout the novel we unpack her past traumas and live through her new ones with her.
