Reflecting on the Successes and Failures of President Trump

Now that the United States has a new president (Joe Biden) and since now Donald Trump is now the former president, people have a lot of mixed feelings about this. While most people are happy that Trump is now out of office, others are taking it personally and are angry. For example the Trump supporters started the riot on January 6th, 2021 at the Capitol because the protesters were angry about Trump not winning this year’s election. Now that Trump is no longer President, here’s Trump’s biggest accomplishments and failures from his 1st term of presidency.

When Trump was President, he installed three Supreme Court Justices and 226 judges overall to the federal bench, all for life-time appointments which was one big accomplishment as the president. Although Trump is no longer president of the United States, his presidency has forever had a powerful influence in the United States because of the many federal Judges he installed. He has also signed a $738 billion defense bill for the sixth branch of the US Armed Forces — the Space Force. Also he signed the First Step Act in December 2018 making it the first legislative victory in many years for advocates seeking to reform the criminal justice system.

However Former President Trump has done some questionable things as president that not everyone was happy about such as his tepid response to the Neo-Nazi rally on Charlottesville, Virginia. Among other controversial moments Trump had during his presidency were his controversial speeches and record on race relations, BLM, and white supremacy. He has also blamed “many sides” for the riot which resulted in the death of a protester, Heather Heyer. His 1st term of presidency has been criticized by both the Republicans and Democrats as his failure to offer a swift and forceful censure of white supremacist violence. He has also failed to rise to the occasion of the brutal death of George Floyd in the hands of the Minneapolis police.

As former President Trump’s  presidency only lasted one term, he has accomplished several things as president, but has also made many controversial records and failures as the President which made him a bit less likeable and a bit untrustworthy.

During his time as president, Trump has also campaigned on reducing undocumented immigration. In 2016, he was accused of abusing human-rights and also violating international law by UN. Meaning that he was separating undocumented immigrants from their families, preventing them from being able to go to school in America, and living in America by building a border wall with Mexico. He has also failed to reduce guns when guns are being used to shoot children and teens at schools and universities.

Even as several people believe Trump didn’t make a good president for the United States because of the amount of mistakes he has made that adults and children inside and outside of America had to suffer for, he has also made some accomplishments that has an impact in our country.
