The Clippers, defeated the Raiders by a score of 42-14, in large part to a potent Clipper offense on Friday October 4th, 2019 at ERHS, during Roosevelt’s homecoming game.

The Raiders came into the game confident, as they had defeated Duval the week before 41-6 and were looking to get to 3-2 on the year. They were unable to do so, as the Oxon Hill Clippers improved to 4-1 on the year with the win.

The Clippers came into the game 3-1, with their only loss against Suitland High School by a slim two points. Besides that loss, Oxon Hill has had a potent offense, outscoring their opponents by 117 points over their first 3 wins.

The Clipper offense did not stop as they took an early and commanding 28-0 lead. On their first play from scrimmage, the quarterback threw a 70 yard touchdown to junior Malik Baker.

The Raider’s offense got going on their next drive, rushing the ball effectively, and getting deep into Clipper territory. The Raiders settled for a field goal try, but the kick was blocked sending the Oxon Hill fans into a frenzy, and killing Raider momentum. Junior kicker Deven Verma said that “Oxon Hill crowded the line and they got pressure on the kick,” forcing the block.

Soon after the blocked kick, the Clipper offense took advantage. They passed for 25 yard touchdown run, as well as a 20 yard touchdown pass, to go up 21. On the day Oxon Hill quarterback Rob Montgomery passed for 333 yards, while accounting for 6 touchdowns, while senior receiver Jaden Byrd caught 5 passes for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night.

The Raider offense kept battling though, as they put together a few sustained drives, although penalties set them back, and were forced to punt. The third quarter brought a change in that neither team scored, as each team was held in check. On the day Oxon Hill quarterback Rob Montgomery passed for 333 yards, while accounting for 6 touchdowns.

Raider defensive tackle David Oladimejij said to improve, “[Roosevelt] needs to fight harder and stay on tackles.”

The fourth quarter brought something different however. The Raiders were able to score due to a touchdown runs from Matthew Wilson who rushed for 166 yards on the night, and was responsible for both of the Raiders’ touchdowns.

This game was also the Roosevelt’s homecoming game, as fans from Roosevelt filed in and kept the atmosphere lively. Though the lively atmosphere Oladimejij said that “how can we win with our own school not supporting us” saying some of the chants were “distracting.”

The Raiders look to move on next week, as they play an away game at Charles Herbert Flowers High School in an away conference game, looking to bounce back from this loss.
