On Saturday May 6th the Roosevelt Raiders defeated Gwynn Park 16-2 to complete their undefeated season. Coach Scott Sorenson led the Raiders to their first Lacrosse county championship.

In the previous two years the Raiders were not county champs. According to Senior Rodney Pennington, on the feeling of bring home that first county championship, “after the clock hit zero, it was both a relief and extreme happiness. It wasn’t easy and always feels good to accomplish a goal that we set early in the year.” Pennington also added about team chemistry. “We have a lot of personalities that took awhile to connect, but props to the captains and coaches for pulling us all in the mindset of one singular goal.”

According to Junior Alexander Anthony “definitely our defense” was the key thing needed to improve and continue winning.  Anthony added about coach Sorenson and how  ” he motivates us constantly and stays hard on us to clean up our mistakes during practice.”

Sophomore Austin Wilson described the team chemistry “not just on the field but in the locker room, classrooms, and even seeing each other in the hallways”. For next year Wilson added ” we have to work with the new members who just started playing to grow them as players because we want to reach all the goals set for next season.”  Also Wilson said ” the workouts in September help grow our abilities and bond more as a team.”

Now the Raiders prepare for the 4A tournament and wait for their next challenge.
