Board of Education Decides Against Cell Tower on ERHS Grounds
May 10, 2017
In a letter sent Tuesday, May 10, from PGCPS Chief Executive Officer Kevin Maxwell to District 2 Board of Education Member Lupi Quinteros-Grady, Maxwell notified Grady that Milestone Communications has withdrawn its application to construct a cellphone tower on ERHS grounds. The letter was also shared with the PTSA and the staff of the school.
Maxwell wrote that he shares the concerns Grady and the community expressed about the proposed tower, and that they had communicated these concerns and displeasure to Milestone Communications. He wrote that the company had not met PGCPS’s standards of “transparency, communication and community engagement.”
This announcement comes after teachers, students, and Greenbelt residents had expressed considerable outrage in response to the proposed tower.
