A club at Eleanor Roosevelt High School has decided that they want to become citizens of the world. Junior Civitan makes it a part of their mission to go around the school collecting recyclables.
Students at Roosevelt have been participating in Junior Civitan’s recycling program. This year, Junior Civitan is adding bottles and cans to its recycling repertoire.
Every Friday afternoon, students collect items to be recycled, which are eventually picked up by the city of Greenbelt. Students and teachers alike are excited to make a difference.
Mr. Coit Hendley, of the Science Department, thinks recycling is “an excellent effort.”
Students around the school are lauding the efforts of Junior Civitan.
Mariam Coker, a member of the Class of 2014, said, “They’re doing a good thing. We print so many things and it hurts when I see someone putting something in the trash instead of the recycling bin. What they’re doing is really helping the earth.”
Junior Civitan’s efforts have even gotten the attention of Principle McNeill.
Principle McNeill said, “(I am) really excited about the efforts that teachers and students are making…toward…keeping Roosevelt green.”
