The Eleanor Roosevelt High School boys varsity soccer team snatched up yet another win Tuesday afternoon against the Parkdale Panthers with a final score of 1-0.
Both teams played very defensively throughout the whole game. The Raiders dominated in the first half; however, as the after halftime the Panthers were more prepared and had more control.
In the second half, the teams were neck and neck, and the game was scoreless up until the 19th minute of the second half when senior Oliver Mead scored a goal on a free kick.
“This was the first game we didn’t use skill, but heart to win,” said Mead. “It wasn’t too pretty during the second half but our defenses held tight, and that’s all we needed,” said Mead.
Though near the end, the Panthers began to play more and more aggressively, the Raiders weren’t letting anything past on their way to another win.
After the game, Coach George Kallas discused the team’s performance.
“I’m concerned we didn’t practice well, we should’ve handled this game. We were very fortunate we had that goal. I’d like to see us keep the ball low and be capable of possessing the game more,” said Kallas.
The Raiders play again tomorrow at Flowers High School.
