ERHS students walking past the football field Monday morning were greeted by freshly-painted columbia blue and black bleachers, which also feature the letters “ERHS” painted in white as a centerpiece.
Volunteers painted the bleachers on the first Saturday of the new school year, and received service hours and pizza as a reward for their participation in the event, which was sponsored by Roosevelt’s own Truth, Love, and Character club in partnership with MCF Community Church in Greenbelt.
“I really believe that it brought out a lot of enthusiasm from our students,” said Principal Reginald McNeill, “people come out, and they really take ownership of what they’ve done, and it really brings out a lot of school spirit.”
The bleacher rejuvenation is especially well-timed for the start of the fall sports season.
“The bleachers look really nice,” said Athletic Director Tom Green, “It’s been at least 6 years since they were last painted, and hopefully they’ll bring inspiration to our teams.”
For sophomore Delano Davis, the bleachers are about school spirit.
“I think they look way better than the ones we had before,” he said, “ it makes me feel much more school pride about going to school sporting events
