Dr. Alvin Crawley, interim superintendent of PGCPS, stopped by Eleanor Roosevelt High today on his tour of schools in the county.
He had been to elementary schools, middle schools and high schools and he is trying to find out how to bridge that gap between what the pre-kindergarten students do and how their skills will be applied and necessary when they reach high school.
A group of students, all twelfth graders, sat down for a round-table discussion with Dr. Crawley in the principal’s office. The group consisted of two JROTC members, Nehemiah Emaikwu and Nina Ford, as well as Vanessa Debra and Preethi Rajaguru. Shabnam Ahmed, a student Board Member from Bowie High school, also attended the meeting, taking down notes and giving insight on what she observes from school to school about the Prince George’s County Public Schools system.
Dr. Crawley asked the students a few questions about what they felt needed to be changed about the school system. Most of the students in attendance were astonished to find out the school budget for this year was, in total, $1.64 billion dollars.
