Mr. George Slenkovich, a Maryland local who attended the University of Maryland College Park, and double majored in Mathematics and Secondary Education, is now teaching Pre Calculus and Geometry at ERHS.
Although this is Mr.Slenkovich’s first year being a full-time teacher, he is not new to teaching. In fact, he once tutored a football player at University of Maryland, College Park who graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School. “When I found out he attended Roosevelt I was further encouraged to teach here,” Mr. Slenkovich said.
So far, Mr.Slenkovich said he is enjoying his time here at Roosevelt. “Roosevelt has a lot of bright, highly motivated students. They can be energetic, but are generally more mature than most students I have worked with.” He also admitted that he had a tough choice deciding whether to teach in Prince George’s County or Montgomery County, but “If you search top school’s, Eleanor Roosevelt High School always comes up,” said Mr. Slenkovich
Not only did Mr.Slenkovich sound content to be teaching here at Roosevelt, but his students said they enjoy having him as a teacher as well. Sophomore Fougeley Denis, a student in Mr. Slenkovich’s geometry class, said “It is the one class I look forward to throughout the day,” and that she does not have to stress much about the class.
A student in one of Mr. Slenkovich’s pre-calculus classes, senior Donnaya McNeill, explained that “he gives us enough time to do homework and always makes sure that we all understand what we are learning.”
Ever since he started teaching, Mr.Slenkovich explained, he does not have much free time. However, in the little free time he has, he said “I love cars and love repairing cars. My mom will sometimes call me up to also repair her car.”
Apart from teaching and having a knack for repairing cars in his free time, Mr.Slenkovich also said he has a strong passion for hockey and hopes to become involved with the school’s hockey team and other after-school activities.
