Seniors will celebrate with Baccalaureate
May 12, 2015
On May 28 at 7:00 p.m. the Greenbelt interfaith community will be hosting the Baccalaureate celebration here at Eleanor Roosevelt high school for the graduating class of 2015.
This ceremony is a farewell celebration from the faith community for the graduating seniors. The whole event is sponsored by Mr. Jim Fisher, the leader of the Greenbelt interfaith community, and by business teacher Mrs. Arnetta Thornton.
“This is a wonderful time where we honor our graduating seniors. It’s away that we let them into the real world with our blessing upon them,” said Mrs. Thornton.
The interfaith community consists of muslims, christians, hindus, jews, and buddhists, and also welcomes those who are not religious. They come together each year to make this celebration happen. She added, “Every student that has come to participate have really enjoyed the ceremony, with wonderful prayers. Many students choose to speak about their religion and how it has shaped their time here at Roosevelt.”
Students who don’t believe in a certain religion or higher being are welcomed to attend this celebration, as well, said Thornton.
There will be flash photography at this event, with refreshments as well. Seniors attending should cap and gown on.
