The Quest for the Best Burger: BurgerFi
May 5, 2015
Walking into BurgerFi was like stepping into a warehouse. The walls had metal-looking bolts from the floor to mid-wall and wood paneling the rest of the way up to the ceiling. In contrast to the last restaurant I visited, BurgerFi was virtually empty. Maybe three or four customers entered in the thirty minute time span my family and I took to eat, which worried me, but my burger ended up being pretty decent, to say the least.
The empty restaurant had no line, of course, so I immediately ordered. Attempting to keep my order simple, once again, I ordered the BurgerFi Cheeseburger which included two beef patties, two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato and BurgerFi sauce. This burger costed about six dollars. Yet another perk to the empty restaurant was the short wait time. It took about five minutes to receive our food.
The three burgers my family ordered were served in paper wrapping and placed on a metal tray. The individually wrapped burgers were a bit of a nuisance as each of my family members was forced to set their burger on a napkin. The napkin would have been sufficient had grease from the burger not seeped through, leaving a small, oily puddle on the table. Despite the greasiness, the burger was not ruined.
My burger, however, was not exactly impressive, either. A unique detail was the firm bun, which was branded with “BURGERFI,” on top. This pretty bun was overly buttery, however, and lost its favor with me. The double stacked patties were thin and unseasoned, failing to add any flavor or heartiness to the sandwich. The two slices of cheese may have covered the lack of seasoning, but it also ruined the possibility of any depth within other flavors. BurgerFi’s website made claims of a delicious burger sauce that their cooks spend hours making and yet the sauce barely made an appearance on the burger. I found a light smear of it after close inspection of the bun, but it was not even enough to swipe onto my finger and have a taste.
The usual side of fries was a good addition to the meal. The slight greasiness and perfect amount of salt reminded me of the popular Five Guys french fries. The burger should be the main focus of the meal, however, and it tasted like something I could’ve made just as well at home.
My burger was not impressive, but I was not incredibly disappointed. No ingredient had the degree of freshness I was looking for and the seasoning, or lack thereof, fell flat. I think that this burger has its purpose, though. Sometimes I have a craving for something greasy and unhealthy tasting and this would be a good burger for that occasion, however I doubt someone craves the taste of grease constantly. The BurgerFi burger was a three out of five stars.
