Don’t know what to do during summer this year? Are you looking for a summer volunteer opportunity? Volunteering can allow you to gain valuable experiences, earn service learning hours, and develop skills that will help you shape your future. Summer is full of opportunities for high school students looking to make the most of their time off. Here are some volunteer opportunities we’ve found for you, whether you live in Greenbelt, College Park, or Hyattsville!
Volunteering in Greenbelt

Animal Shelter Volunteer – If you love spending time with animals and are interested in social media outreach, event planning, fundraising, organizing, dog walking, cat socializing, and more, then the Greenbelt animal shelter is the place for you! For more information, visit their installation at 25 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770, or the website. The program does not set a limit, and you may contribute in different ways.
Green Volunteer – Volunteers will work with Public Works staff at the City of Greenbelt to rejuvenate the forest in Buddy Attick Park by removing invasive species, and installing native trees and shrubs in the understory. If you haven’t completed your service hours, this is a good opportunity for students to take their community-service forms, check the website for more information if needed!
Volunteering in College Park

If you are interested in volunteering in College Park, the City of College Park government would love your help in running multiple events hosted in the city. PGCPS students who want to acquire service hours have the opportunity. The College Park staff can track service hours and provide documentation or letters of recommendation as needed.
If this sounds like a good chance for you, sign up for the volunteer opportunity application here or visit College Park’s office at 7401 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 201, College Park, MD 20740. Filling out the application will also allow you to learn more about events that you can volunteer to help with and track your hours worked.
