The Trump administration has dismissed hundreds of scientists and experts who had been working for the federal government’s report on how global warming is affecting the country.
According to CNN, since 2018 Trump stated he didn’t believe the findings of the NCA, labeling it as inaccurate. He didn’t trust science. He also wanted to help the fossil fuel industry, because he supports oil, gas, and coal companies. Also he doesn’t like strong government regulations because often there would be new climate reports and that could create new laws to protect the environment.
The National Climate Assessment (NCA) provides the U.S. government with climate change information such as impacts and risks. NCA helps the government, communities, and the public understand the current status and future trends of the climate. With this information given out to the public, we get to take action or the U.S government creates new laws, they can be strict yet it would help the community.
Without them we could receive bad quality of energy, land and water resources, human health, social systems, and biodiversity. DTE staff member also agrees with the fact that the dismissal could cause trouble “the dismissal raises serious concerns about the future of climate research and preparedness in the US”. Many students live in areas where there could be floods, wildfires, or heatwaves and that makes it harder for schools and communities to prepare.
