Do you appreciate your teachers but don’t know how to show it? Do you feel your favorite teachers underappreciated? Well, Junior Osmel Sosa Chavez ¨I think they should know they’re appreciated because they all work pretty hard, and it would be kind of messed up to not show any appreciation to them whatsoever.¨ Osmel isn’t the only student who feels this way, Junior, Quadir Gillette, said “ Of course, some teachers probably doubt themselves so its pretty good to let them know you know.”
Whether or not you enjoy the class you’re in, or even the work, you should still give credit where credit is due. Junior, Xander Adona, said “ I honestly feel as if some of the teachers don’t get the credit they deserve, most are chill, but some students don’t feel that way.” You`re going to find students who don’t show appreciation to their teachers, but, Art teacher Monique Connealy said, ¨I think teachers are somewhat appreciated throughout the year, but it’s not consistent.¨ This quote really lets us know that teachers are appreciated throughout the year, as they should be, even if not many show it. Connealy also says, “ It’s important to let your teachers know if they have made a difference in your life or you enjoyed their class, or even if you didn’t enjoy the class, but feel you learned a lot. We keep those notes and cards and look at them when we’re overwhelmed. “
One thing to keep note of is, not all teachers feel appreciated the same way others do. Science teacher Brandon Stewart says, “something a student can do to make me feel appreciated is just simply pay attention, it makes me feel appreciated when I know my students listen to me.” So, the next time you walk into class, take a moment to look around and think about the effort your teachers put in every day. Whether it’s through a simple thank you, a thoughtful note, or just showing you’re engaged in whats being taught, those small actions can mean a lot to every teacher. As Mr. Stewart said, just paying attention can go a long way. Teachers don’t expect big gestures they just want to know that their work matters. So don’t wait until Teacher Appreciation Week to show you care. Let them know today. A little appreciation can go a long way.
