On November 2nd, 2024 the Raiders varsity football team led a 36-8 win against the Bowie Bulldogs making them qualify for the States quater finals. The team has been working as a unit and executing all their plays and using their good technique to keep up their streak of 7-1 this season!
Starting off in Quarter 1 both teams were going neck and neck battling off the ball but not gathering a lot of points until Raiders were able to get a touchdown and score six points and then score another 4 just before the quarter ended leaving the score 10-0. Player Marcues Coleman stated that “ The team wasn’t really into the game in the beginning, but the coach gave us a big pep talk and we realized this game could make us or break us in the end.” Second Quarter the Bowie Bulldogs were having a rough path getting many fouls and misconducts in the game, giving the Raiders a big upper hand making the lead once again 13-0.
Taking a break from the game and turning to halftime we saw games involving the cheerleaders interacting with the crowd and playing games. The varsity senior cheerleaders did a walk for the last time on the track with their families and friends to show and applaud their hard work and dedication to the team. Lastly for the halftime the 1999 State championship football and cheer team came to cheer and support us and gave advice and took pictures with the new team.
In the third quarter the Raiders really pulled through with their touchdowns and extra points. Then at the last five minutes the Bulldogs managed to score a touchdown and 2 points making the score 23-8 ending third quarter. Fourth quarter the Bulldogs got many fouls and missing scores while Raiders got 2 touchdowns and 2 extra points, ending the game 36-8, making the Raiders the winners of the game!
They are moving to compete for the states quater finals with their first game going against Flowers on November 15th, 2024.
As a fan, this game was really interesting and enjoyable. I really enjoyed the vendors and all the interactions with the crowd. I liked seeing all the alumni being really supportive and doing what they once did when they were on the team, and I liked seeing our varsity team take home our homecoming game with a big victory
