18 year old, Andrea Ye also known as Alex Ye, was arrested on April 17, 2024 by Montgomery County officials. Alex was charged with threat of violence as they found evidence of the teen planning to shoot his current high school and elementary school.
The FBI Baltimore Field office had discovered a “manifesto” which was about 129 pages long which was composed by Alex Ye, according to the Montgomery County Department of police. Alex Ye wrote about committing a school shooting at his current high school and elementary school. In this same document he explains further strategies planned for the school shooting, he said he wanted to become famous.
MCPD obtained a warrant which allowed them to see Alex’s internet searches and drawings about doing harm. Alex’s current high school was Wootton High school. Alex had “not physically attended class since fall 2022, he has been actively participating in lessons on an online program” said by Montgomery County Public Schools. Things are not looking good for Alex as the school system statement said “the charges are extremely serious, involving alleged threats to harm others”.
However, Alex Ye was hospitalized in December of 2022 for threat of violence in a shooting at a school. In 2023 he was then detained again for 5 months at Johns Hopkins Pediatric Unit for “homicidal ideations” said by the arrest warrant according to CNN.
On Friday, April 19, 2024, there was a conference hearing, “the judge denied bond” for Alex Ye, stated by Mauricio Casillas from NBC Washington.
For his arrest many lives were saved, no one knows if he would have actually done what he planned or not do anything at all but certain measures had to be taken to prevent something bad from happening. Measures were also taken before when he was hospitalized. Even though this took place in Montgomery County, something similar related to the topic “violence” happened in Greenbelt, Maryland after a senior skip day went wrong.
