On 25 March, 2024 Donald Trump began his trial in New York. According to BBC News, Trump supposedly led a hush-money cover-up in 2016. Judge Juan Merchan on Thursday said that Trump “has an extensive history of publicly and repeatedly attacking trial jurors and grand jurors,” so the trial is set to be dramatic. Trump denies all claims made about him. Trump faces 34 counts of fraud alleging that he falsified business records to disguise payments he made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels as legal fees.
Ms. Daniels mentions that she was paid at least $130,000 in 2016 to stay silent about having an affair with Trump. Trump was charged with 88 charges, while Trump denies them all, it was said that his trial would last around six weeks.
Even though Trump has not currently been found guilty, this trial can cause big effects on the U.S. and the community. Trump will be able to run for and be elected president of the US even if found guilty of felony charges. This is a problem because the US won’t have any trust in the president and won’t know what he could do in the future. Future elections can also be complicated because of research the people have to do so see if the president comes out clean. Voters have to watch for Trump’s behavior and make sure he doesn’t commit the same mistakes.
