The Eleanor Roosevelt High School track team is working hard for the upcoming indoor season. They train as a team Monday through Friday on the track which is located on our football field. Two athletes explained to The Raider Review how they prepare for winning meets.
Senior Destani Hebron speaks on her 3 years of running track for ERHS: “It’s been a roller coaster of learning the correct fundamentals but it was worth it and I will do it again.” As for techniques, she says “I use a breathing technique to keep my stamina up.” She goes on to explain how if you control your breathing, you won’t lose as much oxygen and you’ll keep your endurance. She leaves readers with one more piece of advice for underclassmen: “Take your time with the process, actually listen and learn, don’t rush the process.”
Junior Jamaal Payton is s preparing by “attending all of the track team workouts and being coachable.” Being coachable at ERHS means focusing in practice and listening to coaches’ instructions and advice. It is what the coaches are looking for in their athletes.
Jamaal Payton then goes on to say “In practice, everybody is motivating everybody, I learned patience with running track.” It is true that ERHS teaches uplifting others on and off the track and field. Catch a meet and watch the Raiders compete.
