ERHS would like to welcome Mrs. Jennifer Matson in the Special Education department.
While this is her first year teaching at ERHS, she has been teaching for 8 years, most recently at Wilson High School in D.C. where she taught English. She has also taught at Montgomery Blair and other Montgomery County schools.
Mrs. Matson grew up in Houston, Texas, and attended Wesleyan College, an all-women’s college in Lincoln, Georgia where she received her bachelor’s degree. She went on to receive her Graduate’s degree from George Washington College in D.C.
She currently resides in College Park with her husband and two kids. “I love teaching,” says Mrs. Matson “I feel honored to be a teacher, and I love watching kids change.”
Before she became a teacher, Mrs. Matson supervised interns. She said her favorite part was working with young people and “creating minions,” by which she means, having students work for her. Mrs. Matson likes working in Special Education because she enjoys the challenge of helping kids who struggle. When asked to describe working in the Special Education department in one word, she replied “intense”.
She said she loves the school because of the neighborhood and the vibe.
Although Mrs. Matson is new to the ERHS community, she is already getting involved. She is the sponsor of the debate team for this school year, and students already have positive things to say about her.
Freshman Charles William Booker said, “She’s a good teacher. I love her. There are no words for what I have to say about her. It’s a good thing she came to Roosevelt.”
Another student in her class, freshman Shantice Bell agreed that Mrs. Matson is a great teacher.
