Taylor Swift Wraps Up Her Decade in her AMA’s Performance
December 20, 2019
Taylor Swift made a statement with her performance at the AMA’s on November 24, 2019. This was the highly anticipated by fans ever since Swift released her statement on twitter about how her former label was not letting her perform her old songs at the event.
Swift wrote “Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year”. The internet went into flames after this post was posted. The post received 916.2k likes and 280.6k retweets and hashtags like #IStandWithTaylor were also used by many fans and celebrities to show support.
Artists such as Halsey, Brendan Urie, Camila Cabello, Selena Gomez, etc. took to Instagram and Twitter to show their support towards Taylor Swift and also talk about how unfair the music industry is.
At last, Dick Clark production released a statement which stated that Big Machine Label and Dick Clark production had “come to terms on a licensing agreement that approves their artists’ performances to stream post show and for re-broadcast on mutually approved platforms. This includes the upcoming American Music Awards performances.” This made fans and Taylor Swift herself very happy.
That doesn’t mean that she didn’t shade her label at the AMA’s though.
Swift opened her performance with the anthem “The Man” from her latest album “Lover” which talks about the unfair towards women in the industry and double standards. She also wore a button down shirt which had titles of her previous albums such as “Red”, “Fearless”, “1989”, “Speak Now” sprawled all over it. All of them were released when she was under the Big Machine label.
She also performed her older hits including “Blank Space”, “Shake It Off”, “Love Story”, and “I Knew You Were Trouble”. Halsey and Camila Cabello joined Swift on stage to sing “Shake It Off”. She closed the performance by singing her hit title track from the album “Lover”.
The singer took home six AMA’s that night including Favorite album- pop/rock, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock), Favorite Artist (Adult Contemporary), and Artist of the Year. This means that in total, she now has 29 AMA’s breaking Michael Jackson’s record.
Lastly, Swift was named the “Artist of the Decade.” In her speech, she thanked her fans and family. She did not directly mention her conflict with her previous, however, she said “this industry is really weird”.
Swift has made many hits over the years and is a part of everyone’s memories of this decade.
