On Tuesday, October 8, the High School Nation Tour visited Eleanor Roosevelt High School. Advocating for the expansion of Art programs in schools, the Tour encourages students to pursue music, art, and media.

Roosevelt was one of forty schools across the nation scheduled for the fall Tour, organized with the help of music Department Chair Mr. Hawk. In partnership with Hollister and the tour, rising artists such as Sofi K, Micah Blu, Jessame, and DJ UnieQ performed for the Raiders.

Students were allowed to attend the event at 1 pm during the latter half of the school day as a result of Tuesday’s modified bell schedule.

Below are pictures of activities and booths that students participated in.

Student Jason Ramsey and his friends explored a station with sound equipment.

Free t-shirts, lanyards, sunglasses, hats, pins, and bags were given out.

An event staff member helped student Tamrin O’Neal understand the equipment being used.

Students crowded around booths organized by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and Truth, a campaign that encourages teenagers to help eliminate the use of tobacco in the United States.

However, many students quickly settled down in the hallways outside of the performance area during the two hour event. Due to unforeseen circumstances regarding the gun shots fired across from the school on Monday, October 7, the event was moved indoors to the gym. The last minute change may have caused difficulties that related to the structure and organization of the set up.
