New York native Ms. Kelly Coons teaches Pre-Cal and Geometry math courses at ERHS.
This is her first year teaching full time, following a successful year of student teaching through ERHS’s partnership with the University of Maryland, where she majored in math.
Ms. Coons said her inspiration to become a math teacher was her 8th-10th grade math teacher who was “the best teacher ever”. Her teacher changed her view about math after she had a bad experience with her 7th grade math teacher.
“I love math. I really do,” says Coons “I’ll admit, I’m super nerdy and my students love that about me.”
Her favorite aspects of being a teacher are the interaction with students and being able to have a positive influence in the lives of students.
One of Ms. Coon’s Pre-Cal students, Junior Paul Dong, says that “She’s pretty great. She tells us what we need to know for tests.”
Another of Ms. Coons’ Pre-Cal students, senior Quanasia Hill, says that Ms. Coons is “actually awesome” and “one of the sweetest teachers here.” Both Dong and Hill said that students who pay attention to Ms. Coon’s class are guaranteed to pass her class.
