Senior football player Lawtez Rogers (#7) has recently committed to the University of Maryland College Park as a defensive end player. Lawtez plans to major in Architecture and/or Civil Engineering while attending UMD. As Lawtez says,  “I want to own my own business, get my mom anything she wants and make it to the NFL.” Many people have their different goals but always make plans just in case some things don’t work out.

Rogers speaks on how he was able to manage school work and football at the same time, no that is not an easy task for everybody. “A lot of it was help from my peers, teachers, and coaches. Before practice Coach Thomas Green would give us an hour plus of study hall and I would come to school early to get extra help for school. People would willingly want to help me and it is a blessing.” Lawtez would seek help from teachers and tutors, he doesn’t believe teachers are easier on him when it comes to school work.

Lawtez started playing football when he was nine years old, under his big cousin Malcolm for Greenbelt. When Rogers was younger he “needed something to do because I was very hyperactive,” as he says. “I grew up in a bad neighborhood so this would give me something to do with family and positive roles instead of being outside looking up to the wrong people.” Rogers saw football as an opportunity to earn free tuition to college instead of depending on his mother which would make her happy.

Junior Eli McDonald claims, “he’ll do great and make an impact on the team early as long as he keeps working hard on the field.” Senior Demetrius Hart believes “it’s a great move for my brother”, and he’s “proud and anxious to see him show out.”
