Super Bowl 50: Who will come out on top?

Erick Carillo, Business Manager

We are finally in the last week of the 2015-2016 NFL playoff’s season. This is the week we all have been waiting for; where friends and family unite to enjoy a great football game on the last Sunday night of the season. This is the week when the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos give it their all in hopes of winning Super Bowl 50.

You read that right, Super Bowl 50, not Super Bowl “L”. You don’t have to brush up on your Roman numerals this year for a few reasons. At the top of the list: nobody wants to be associated with losers, especially the NFL.

“Some would ask, ‘The letter L, what does that associate with?” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said to NFL.com.

The answer, of course, is “losing.” “Football is a game of X’s and O’s.” So there you have it nobody wants to take an “L” home instead of a “W.”

Cam Newton, also known as “Superman”, is the quarterback for the Carolina Panthers (17-1). He has 3837 passing yards and 35 touchdown passes, with 10 rushing touchdowns of his own. Sophomore, James Hernandez described Cam Newton as “unstoppable and incredible” due to his precise ability to score touchdowns.

Peyton Manning, 39 also known as “The Sheriff”, is the quarterback for the Denver Broncos (14-4). He has 2249 passing yards and 9 touchdowns passes. Eder Hernandez said that “Peyton Manning is one of the best quarterbacks’ of all time because of his age since most quarterback’s have long retired by that age and the fact that he was able to get his team to the Super Bowl shows how amazing he is.”

Prediction: I believe that the Panthers will win Super Bowl 50 this year because Cam Newton has shown his ability to throw and score touchdowns and will be able to lead the Panthers to a victory.

The game is Sunday, February 7 at 6:30pm. Visit our Twitter page, @ERHSRaiderNews to vote for who you think will win Super Bowl 50.
