Fall Sports Outlook

Students advertise for Saturday's Homecoming game.

As an ERHS student, there is a lot to be excited about for Roosevelt sports this fall. Once again, ERHS fields a multitude of teams that will be competitive in the county.
The boys’ varsity soccer team, coached by Mr. George Kallas, is looking to improve upon a 4-4 record last year, and come into this season ranked number 52 in the state.
“As long as we’re improving, getting better, and people are playing to their abilities, I’m quite happy. I don’t put a record limit on it,” commented Coach Kallas when asked what he expects his team to accomplish this season.
Roosevelt’s varsity football team hopes to match the success that the team had last season, going 10-0 in the regular season before suffering a defeat in the first round of the playoffs. This year’s team has already experienced its first blemish of the season, with a loss against Wise High School. Despite the loss, the team still has their sights set on winning the rest of their games.
The girls’ varsity volleyball team has a simple goal for the 2012 season: go to states. That sentiment was expressed by both the players and coaches.
“Varsity is trying to go to states, and JV wants to go undefeated and beat Bowie. We need to work on communication and getting the ball up as well as hitting,” said Ashley Robey, a junior on the varsity squad.
The ERHS Golf team comes into 2012 as the only PG County team to go the Maryland State Championship in 2011. Mr. Troy Bradbury, the coach of the golf team, was also honored as the All-Gazette 2011-2012 Coach of the Year, after placing six athletes within the top nine at the PGCPS championship. The 2012 team hopes to continue this success.
The Raiders will be contenders in all fall sports in the county, and look to continue the winning tradition held by Roosevelt HS athletics.
